Dr. Blackwell is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, or D.C. for short, but he is not the typical chiropractor you may be accustomed to or have heard about. He is more akin to a traditional naturopathic doctor than any of the current mainstream licensed physicians (MDs, DOs, DCs, NMDs & OMDs).
There are many different types of chiropractors, the most common ones being those who manually adjust and manipulate bones in order to align the spine for the nervous system to function optimally.
While in agreement with the end result, Dr. Blackwell does not believe that the fault lies solely on the structural alignment of the spine or that the bones in our bodies come out of place by themselves.
Dr. Blackwell takes a different approach to the human body and focuses more on nutritional-biochemistry and functional neurology in order to uncover what else may be affecting the the body's systems. In order to analyze the body's many systems, Dr. Blackwell uses Applied Kinesiology and the Systems Health Care technique.
Applied Kinesiology is a non-invasive biofeedback system that utilizes neurological muscle testing in order to diagnose and determine the proper technique needed for treatment.
Let's break that down. Biofeedback systems are ways that practitioners gather information about the body that will be useful for treatment.
Applied Kinesiology uses neurological muscle testing to achieve this but other conventional methods you may have heard of that do something similar are blood tests, x-rays, or palpation.
Just as blood work can give a doctor information about what is going on in the body, neurological muscle testing does the same, it is just much quicker and allows the doctor to apply the proper treatment right away.
Applied Kinesiologists believe that all health problems arise from within either structural, chemical, or emotional aspects of our health known as the "triad of health".
These three basic foundations branch off into countless systems that must be analyzed to determine whether an underlying issue may be present.
General chiropractors tend to focus solely on the structural side of the triangle, and while this is necessary, it tends to ignore a huge portion of a person's health. Applied Kinesiology allows a practitioner to find the true cause of a patient's complaint instead of just treating their symptoms.
While Applied Kinesiology uses neurological muscle testing to gather information from the body, the actual treatment comes in the form of countless techniques including myofascial therapy, cranial fault therapy, injury recall, acupressure, functional neurology, clinical nutrition, and many others that are unique to the patient's needs. All of these techniques would typically require a patient to see multiple doctors, but the Systems Healthcare protocol allows Dr. Blackwell to combine all of these techniques into one system to be used no matter what the ailment is.
Muscle testing is the major diagnostic tool that Dr. Blackwell uses to gather information from the body in order to investigate a patient's structural, chemical, and emotional health.
Muscle testing allows Applied Kinesiologists to tap into the nervous system due to the fact that the nervous system directly controls muscle function, hence the more accurately termed "neurological muscle testing" written in many descriptions on this website.
Muscle testing is an extremely precise tool that requires a knowledgeable practitioner as it is often oversimplified and performed incorrectly.
The muscle testing that Dr. Blackwell utilizes is much more intricate than most muscle testing you may have been exposed to and is an important tool in the diagnostic and treatment process.
Muscle function is a direct reflection of the nervous system and any changes observed in muscle function gives the practitioner valuable information as to where in the neurological chain dysfunction may be present.
Dr. Blackwell brings together multiple techniques in order to treat a wide variety of patients and their health problems.
He utilizes nutrition, biochemistry, functional neurology, acupuncture, chiropractic, craniosacral therapy, physiology, and a multitude of other techniques to provide the most efficient treatment possible.
To employ these treatment techniques, Dr. Blackwell combines Applied Kinesiology and Systems Health Care to address the root cause of your problem in a natural and effective way.
This allows Dr. Blackwell to understand the nature of your problem, no matter how diverse the symptoms, without the need to see multiple doctors for your various issues.
Your appointment time is used to evaluate and address your needs, issues, and goals in order to maximize the time spent on actual treatment.
Unlike with other physicians or holistic doctors, the majority of your time spent in Dr. Blackwell’s office will consist of hands-on treatment.
Dr. Blackwell collects typical information such as a comprehensive history, performs orthopedic and neurological exams, and orders appropriate lab tests, but he does not base his diagnosis and recommendations on them. He uses all of these traditional tools along with the addition of neurological muscle testing so that healing can occur at a much faster and deeper level.
Dr. Blackwell treats based on what is going on clinically in the office with his patients, not based on what he thinks might be going on.
The first visit consists of a 1- hour appointment where Dr. Blackwell goes through your history, concerns, and any blood work you may have so that treatment may begin right away. You will spend more time in Dr. Blackwell’s office than a typical doctor or chiropractor but there will be less visits overall. This is to ensure that your complaints do not go untreated or overlooked.
After your initial appointment, follow-up appointments are scheduled for 15 minutes blocks.
When you make an appointment with Dr. Blackwell, you will schedule 2 follow-up visits, one each week for the following 2 weeks so that you are seen consistently for the first 3 weeks of your care. The beginning of your treatment is crucial, and this ensures that Dr. Blackwell can make the appropriate health changes during your time together.
This plan can be altered to accommodate certain situations, but this is the most effective way to get you scheduled and seen consistently so that your response to care can be monitored.
Once the initial 3-week course of treatment is complete, patients will typically be seen once a month. This is to ensure that proper health is maintained and that your treatment plan can be altered or confirmed without too much time having gone by.
There is an annual membership fee of $10 per person or $25 for a family of 4 or more.
For new members, your first visit will be roughly an hour long and the cost is $140 (includes the membership annual fee) for adults. 17 years of age & younger the initial cost goes down. Please reach out to the office for the appropriate cost for your child.
Recurring visits to the office are based off of 15 minute blocks. The base rate is $55. If the visit goes over the allotted time there is an additioinal $10 charge for the each 5 minute block over the 15 minute appointment.
Based on the amount of time Dr. Blackwell will spend with you, his office fees are much less than the average chiropractor or medical physician.
He will not need to see you multiple times per week for an extensive period of time where you will be charged for a very limited amount of treatment. You will spend more time with Dr. Blackwell, resulting in less visits and an overall lower overall cost to you.
Please note that the time you spend in the office will be with Dr. Blackwell, not with an assistant or some other practitioner.
